May Lannis is a famous lead actress of the Star Flower Troupe and the former star actress of Longsong Stronghold Theater.
Appearance
Personality
May took great pride in her acting career, and was notably arrogant and self-centered. Once she realized her performances could bring joy to many and make lives better, she became more caring and empathetic towards others.
Background
May was an actress of Longsong Theater, and was famous in the Western Region for her skills in the profession, standing out even in non-lead roles. She was in the same troupe as Irene and had feelings for Morning Star, even before he married Irene.[1]
Chronology
After being invited by Irene to Border Town, May accepted with the intent on seeing the city for herself and winning over Ferlin Eltek. Much to her shock and disappointment, he was already living a comfortable and stable life under Roland's administration, and so she tried to upstage Irene during their performance of "Cinderella", but to no avail. Accepting her loss, she made preparations to leave before being approached by Roland's Chief Knight, Carter.[2]
When Roland began the development of the "magic movie" starring Lorgar, May was one of the first to recognize its potential and the joy it could bring to the masses, even defying her former mentor's request to delay its release.[3]
Abilities
An otherwise ordinary human, May is a talented and famous actress in the Western Region. By her own admission, however, her skill has somewhat diminished due to focusing her efforts on mentoring the troupe and a lessened desire to be "perfect".
Relationships
Carter Lannis
May was first approached by Carter after her heartbreak following her "Cinderella" performance and the two began seeing each other. They are currently happily married with a son.
Ferlin Eltek
May had romantic feelings for the former knight, but moved on after recognizing the couple's genuine love for each other.
Irene Eltek
For a long time, May did not see Irene as an equal and greatly envied her for marrying Morning Light, even trying to overpower her performance with her own in one last vain attempt to steal him away. Since moving permanently to Border Town and becoming more involved with the Star Flower Troupe, she now genuinely sees Irene as a friend and fellow peer, whom she enjoys mentoring.
